This morning I took Sue out for a meal – OK so it was actually just the Coffee Morning and Bric-a-Brac sale at St Mary’s Church, in our neighbouring village. The wall around the churchyard was in need of repair and the coffee morning was to raise funds.
What a wonderful morning Friendly greetings, excellent coffee, and cream & jam scones to die for… Sue filled several bags with bric-a-brac, freshly-picked spinach, garden plants, home-made scones, apple cake and bought enough raffle tickets to paper a medium sized room!
In addition we sat and chatted with some newly made friends who told us a little the history of the church, reminisced about army days in Catterick Camp, Yorkshire, taught us a Gurkha greeting and memories of travelling up into the Himalayas to pay army pensions, and introduced us to other people and neighbours…
All this for the price of a cup of coffee! Amazing! I can’t wait for next monday and a return visit.
