I've been living in Dorset for several years now so you'd think I'd be getting used to it by now, but every now and again the beauty of my surroundings just makes me stop and gasp out loud! This morning I was on my way to Shaftesbury, taking the "Higher Road" as usual when I came across one bit of hedgerow that made me stop the car and just take in the view for a while.
Lit up by the morning sunshine was a ribbon of flowering shrubs; Elderberry, Honeysuckle, Viburnum, Dog Rose, etc turning an otherwise ordinary hedgerow into a wild display of colours and scents to beat anything the Chelsea Flower Show produced. The backdrop was the "usual" majestic Dorset chalk uplands of vivid green fields and dark woodlands and for at least five minutes, before another car came along the road, I was alone with just the flowers, the scenery and the birdsong.
I'm not sure how to capture this splendour on a camera, or even if its possible to capture it, but tomorrow when I head back to Shaftesbury I'll have a camera with me and I'll leave much earlier than today to give me more time to enjoy this Dorset Wonderland!
