What can I say? After fighting my way out of my deathbed and aboard True Blue for a day's Turbot bashing on the Shambles Bank my total catch was 1 mussel and this beauty:

Just after the first drift a freak wave caught the boat beam-on whilst I'd got my head down baiting a hook and threw me head-first across the full width of the deck where I tried to demolish the gunwales with my face. A real amateurs mistake - alway one hand holding on and one hand fishing is the rule in a heavy chop like today's...
Anyway apart from a pout and a really nice Plaice nothing was caught today - we even put out a net to trawl for sandeels and that came up with only a handful of sprats in it. Other boats around us were doing as badly; Colin Penny on Flamer 3 only had one Turbot so gave up and went back early, another charter caught nothing so cleared off to Kimmeridge to see if there were any early Bream about and only caught one Thornback Ray before also giving up for the day.
We stuck to it hoping for that one elusive monster Turbot that the Shambles throws up every now and again but as the wind picked up and the swell got worse we too called it a day. At least I came home with a memento of my trip
